Handmade Thinking of You Greeting Cards

Thinking of you greeting cards are the perfect way to tell a friend that you are, well, thinking of him/her. And if you can make it yourself, it would absolutely mean sooo much more! On this page, our DT Member Christy will give you a step-by-step tutorial on how to make one that will surely make your friend feel special. We're sure you'll have a blast! :)

How to Make Thinking of You Greeting Cards

Materials Needed:

Card base 5 x 6 ½ (color of your choice) I used pink cardstock
Two pieces of black cardstock cut at 5 x 4 ½ and 1 ¼ x 4 ½
Neenah Classic Crest – Solar white paper or Cougar Opaque White or any other paper you choose that works well with Copic markers (I used Neenah Classic Crest) Cut this down to 5 ½ x 4 ¾
Fiskars Paper Trimmer
Scissors
Copic Markers YG 11, YG 13, YG 17, and R 35
Artist Loft colored pencils – colors Vermillion, Light Purple, Lemon Yellow
Different shades of blue chalks – I used “The Stencil Collection – Non Smearing Pastels”
Make up applicator that has both wide and thin end
Hot Off The Press “Four Seasons” stamp set
Memento Tuxedo Black ink
Color Box Boysenberry Pigment ink
Studio G pink pigment ink
Clear acrylic stamping block (I used my Fiskars Easy Stamp Press)
Twine
Tombow Mono Aqua Liquid Glue
Advanced Tape Glider (ATG) & Scotch Acid Free Adhesive (or any tape runner will do)
This to That Foam Dots
Dazzles Butterfly and Dazzles Greeting stickers
Piece of scrap paper to use as a mask when stamping

Instructions:

Most of my Thinking of You greeting cards always make use of stamps. For this one, use the tree stamp in the “Four Seasons” stamp set that is the fullest tree, this will be the one in the bottom left corner.

Take your Fiskars Easy Stamp Press and place tree stamp onto middle of press and ink it well with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

Proceed to ink firstly onto your piece of scrap paper so you will have this to use as a mask.

Cut out your tree out staying as close to the inked image as possible and then set aside.

Re-ink your tree stamp again and this time ink directly onto your Neenah Solar White paper or card base.

Re-ink stamp again then place your cut out tree and place it directly over the stamped image on your white paper and stamp a second tree to the right of the first one while masking the original image.

Repeat this process again only stamp to the left of the first stamp on your white paper; making sure to mask the original.

In the “Four Seasons” stamp set there are smaller butterflies, ladybugs, birds and insects; use your inks to stamp two butterflies and one insect. Then color each one in using the colored pencils.

Using Copic markers YG 11 & YG 13 create some hills in the background.

*DO NOT DRAW WITH PENCIL FIRST OR ELSE YOU WILL SEE IT THROUGH YOUR MARKERS*

Next take Copic Marker R 35 and color the seat of the swing red.

Take Copic Markers YG 11, YG 13 and YG 17 to color and shade your trees.

Take a make-up sponge and a variety of blue chalk.

Apply chalks to the smaller end of sponge and use this end to apply to the areas closest to your tree trunks and hills.

Now apply the same mixture of blue chalk to the thicker end of your sponge and apply it to the rest of your card above and around the tree tops.

Take your card base and your black cut out card stock.

Apply the Dazzles onto the smaller of the two black pieces of your card stock. Apply the words “Thinking of You” and the dotted gold line and flourish.

Take ATG and apply adhesive to back of white cardstock with trees and adhere to larger black cardstock.

Tie twine around tree portion of card and use small dab of glue to hold bow in place.

Apply foam dots to back of both pieces of black card stock.

Adhere the larger black piece to the top of your card base making sure the fold of your base is on the left hand side. Repeat this process with the smaller black card stock leaving a border around both pieces. And you're done! Here's your finished card!
